Three years ago at this time of year, on a meandering route to buy some groceries, I stopped at a bend in the lane near Broad Campden. The spring sunshine was falling on the trees, highlighting all their characterful shapes and colours - some tall and straight, some gnarled, some leaning crazily but somehow managing to remain standing. The breeze was up, and it felt like winter was finally over.
